1.41 – The Mind Becomes Like a Polished Jewel

kṣīṇa-vṛtter abhijātasyeva maṇer grahatvam tatra sarvārthatā

Translation

When the fluctuations are subdued, the mind becomes like a jewel that reflects all objects perfectly, shining with its own luminosity.

Meaning

A diamond appears to be many colors because it reflects light. Similarly, when your mind becomes perfectly still and clear, it reflects reality just as it is, without distortion. The mind itself becomes transparent-a perfect instrument for knowing.

This is the polished state: clear, luminous, capable of reflecting any truth. And in this clarity, you see yourself clearly too-unfiltered, undeniable.

Commentary – Vyasa (Yogabhashya)

Vyasa teaches that the mind in its natural state-free from obstruction-is intrinsically clear and capable. Nothing needs to be added or improved. Only the dust of disturbance needs to be cleared away.
