Definition
The official definition, quote: “microdosing involves the repeated self-administration of small amounts of psilocybin or LSD. at dosages large enough to improve daily activity, but dosages small enough that normal consciousness is not clouded or impaired.”
Goals and Aims
Even before we start the microdosing, we still want to define goals and aims. The reason that we want to do it is because it’s very easy to fool ourselves or be not sure if it really helps and just believe it helps. Defining something helps us, first of all to put an aim and go to it, and also helps us to measure.
Expectations and Beliefs
In a complex process, the role of our expectations and beliefs is crucial. It’s crucial because it determines what we focus on.
First of all our belief about the process and substance should be positive, if we fear or have a negative opinion about the substance, our doubts will rise at every possible chance, that’s known as the nocebo effect.
Choosing a Substance
One of the first decisions to make is with which substance should I microdose?
There several more substances like mescaline (the active ingredient in San Pedro and peyote), and also Microdosing Amanita muscaria with has botanic acid and muscimol, but for this course we’re gonna focus on the two main classical psychedelics which are: psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms and LSD that was originally semi synthesized from the ergot fungus.
Set & Settings
Set: Refers to your mental and physical state when you begin the microdosing process. It includes your goals, aims, physical sensations, and overall mindset. Settings: Refers to the environment around you, including people, traffic, and weather. This has a significant impact during a psychedelic journey but is harder to control in daily life.
Desired Effects
Before we can understand microdosing, it’s essential to first understand psychedelics, particularly classic psychedelics. These are also known as serotonergic tryptamines because they bind to serotonin receptors. The most common examples of these are LSD and psilocybin, the active compound found in certain mushrooms.
